Variables

In Te Ngahere we’ve been doing a science experiment. The experiment was to create
a ramp for the marble, but Whaea Becks and Whaea Chrissy gave us a challenge. The
challenge was to get the marble to stop accurately at 110 cm ( 1.1 m ) from the end of
the ramp. We were allowed to work in a group of three or two for this experiment,
and my buddy was Mihi. I learned more about variable during this science
experiment.Variables are when you can change something in a science experiment to
make the result better, and you should change one variable at the time, so you know
what you change and what effects it. I enjoyed working with my buddy and
changing the variable to make the result better. I hope I can do some more interesting
science experiment in the future.

Explorer

In Te Ngahere we have been working on an activity about 4 explorers for this week.
The people we are researching about are Nukutawhiti, Kupe, James Cook and Abel
Tasman. My group and I chose Nukutawhiti to research and create something to
show what we have learnt. We found out a lot of things about how Nukutawhiti
made an impact on New Zealand. I think I did well  finding out about important
information about him. I enjoy doing this activity because I can learn about the
history of where I live and someone who made a big impact on this country.
I hope I can find out more about the people (Kupe, Nukutawhiti, James and Abel)
who have left a footprint/impact on New Zealand.

Technology

In Te Ngahere the year 7&8’s  went to Morewa School for technology.
The year 8’s got to do cooking. We made a lasagne with 5 different types of vegetables, some mince, cheese and other ingredients. First we got into pairs,
and chose a table. Then the teacher explained what to do. After that we got to
start our cooking lesson. I really liked the final taste of mine and my buddies
lasagne. It was yum. My favourite part was when we get to try our lasagne.
I hope I can make some more in the future.

Math DLO

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about doubling and halving.
The reason why we learnt this strategies is to simplify a big multiplication problems.
I think what I did well was understanding how to use the strategies to solve a big multiplication
problems. Lately we’ve been working on our math DLO, to explain why we using this strategies,
how we work it out, and explain what this strategies is all about. I always enjoyed learning new
strategy, but i was struggling to create the math DLO. I hope i can do better at finishing or creating
DLO in the future.

Your Choice

On Monday. Te Ngahere had an opportunity to listen to a man named Robett
Hollis. He came to our school and shared his experiences throughout his life
with the students.  When I heard his story, I could felt the pain when his
father died,  it was very sad. His main point was “if you hang out with people
that make bad choices (negative,)you might end up in a negative life. But
if you choose to hang out with people that make  good choices ( positive,)
there are more opportunities for you to be successful or have a positive life.
I enjoyed the whole story because it really inspired me. My favourite quote
from him was “ you don’t have to be the smarter person in class to be
successful. I hope I can meet him again in the future and hear some more
inspiring stories.

Kiorahi

Last week on Friday the year 7&8’s went to Kaikohe for a friendly game of Ki-o-rahi. My team got to play three games, we won two games and lost one game by one point. I learned a lot from other teams and I did well on working as a team. I think my throwing and catching skills got better since I played ki-o-rahi. I enjoyed every game that I played, and the thing I could work on next time is passing to someone near me so they can score a point.  I hope I can play more games and tournaments further in the future.
